Annual energy subsidy
The project team is proposing a Cellars Hill Wind Farm Energy Subsidy, providing financial relief by covering electricity bills up to $1,000 per annum for local households and businesses within 12 kilometres of a turbine, for the life of the project.
As established local families, the landowners are committed to sensitively considering the environmental and cultural values of the area, ensuring the local community benefits from the project and their ongoing stewardship of the land.
More information about the subsidy will be made available as the proposal progresses through planning.
Made in the Highlands
The project vision is to use renewable energy generated on-site to support sustainable businesses and industries in the local area. This could occur through a ‘Behind the Meter’ connection, creating real and lasting social and economic benefits for Bothwell, surrounding communities, and the state of Tasmania.
The Cellars Hill Farm will create employment opportunities for local and regional communities. The key economic impacts are anticipated to include:
-
More than 200 direct jobs in the construction phase
-
Approximately 14 direct ongoing jobs during operation
-
Opportunities for training and development within the renewable energy industry
-
Delivery of more affordable and secure electricity, with a capacity equivalent to powering approximately 132,330 Tasmanian homes.
Additionally, the project is expected to provide opportunities for local businesses to participate during the construction phase and to promote the growth of new industries to support local economic development.
Local sponsorship

Gamuda Engineering sponsors the 2026 Sheep Station Cup
Gamuda Engineering continues to strengthen its partnership with the Central Highlands community through local sponsorships.
In 2026, Gamuda Engineering proudly supported the Sheep Station Cup, a much‑loved community charity event held annually at Ratho Farm in Bothwell. The Cup has long been a gathering point for farmers, local businesses, and families, raising funds for important regional causes.
The event has historically supported organisations such as Bothwell District High School, Rural Alive and Well, and Navigate Family Services.
Gamuda Engineering’s involvement reflects its ongoing commitment to regional development, community well‑being, and celebrating local traditions alongside its renewable energy investments in the Central Highlands.

Supporting future careers in the Highlands
We’re excited to share an update on our involvement in the first Bothwell District High School Careers Expo, held on Thursday 28 August 2025. Students from Bothwell, Glenora, Brighton, and Oatlands schools came together to explore career opportunities - and the Weasel Solar Farm and Cellars Hill Wind Farm team was proud to be part of it.
More than 25 exhibitors filled the gym and outdoor areas, creating a lively and inspiring event for students, parents, and teachers. Our project stall featured interactive activities, information boards, and giveaways designed to spark conversations about renewable energy careers.
Gamuda Engineering, our project partner, generously donated a $2,000 scale model mobile crane (the same type used to install turbines) to Bothwell District High School. Another model crane was awarded to the student who asked the best question on the day - a fun way to encourage curiosity about future opportunities.
The Expo reminded us that young people in the Highlands are ambitious, curious, and eager to see how renewable energy can support their futures.
We’re proud to have been part of this event and look forward to continuing to work with schools and communities to inspire the next generation of workers, innovators, and leaders.

Community consultation

2024 Community Drop-In Session
Prior to lodging the Major Project Proposal, we focused on speaking with nearby neighbours. Now we are seeking to provide the broader community information about the project and an opportunity to provide feedback.
On Tuesday 10 December 2024 we also hosted a community drop-in session at Bothwell Town Hall between 4:00pm and 7:00pm.
At the session, the project team provided more information about the proposal, including a project overview, site context map, site photos, indicative turbine area, indicative annual energy subsidy catchment, flora and fauna, planning pathway, the proponent and a render from the centre of Bothwell.
If you have any questions about the proposal, do not hesitate to contact us.
